WOLLASTON Lawn Tennis Club hosted the Quorn Family Tennis Cup last Saturday.

This is an LTA event for juniors aged 10 and under to play doubles with an adult family member. The matches take place on junior sized tennis courts using balls and rackets designed for children.

Eight teams competed in a round robin format with the top four teams then contesting semi-finals. Haydn Ryder with father Shaun and Abigail Rogers with father Chris, who had finished first and second in the round robin, won the semi-finals.

The final was a keenly contested encounter with some excellent rallies. Haydn and Shaun had lost to Abigail and Chris in the round robin stage but managed to avenge that defeat with an 11-6 win in the final.

Haydn and Shaun will now represent Wollaston at the Quorn Family Tennis Cup Festival held at one of the LTA grass court events in June.

Wollaston Junior Chairman Dave Scriven, who organised the competition, said how pleased he was with the event.

"I thought it would be a fun event for our juniors, but it was even better than expected. All the players, not just the juniors, thoroughly enjoyed the tennis. The parents also provided a host of refreshments so it was a very social event.".

Next month Wollaston will be participating in the biggest tennis tournament in Britain. "Road To Wimbledon" is an LTA national competition for juniors aged 11-14. The Wollaston winners will progress to the County Finals where the winners will qualify for the National Finals at Wimbledon.
