STOURBRIDGE welterweight Sam Eggington will fight for the European title in Birmingham on Saturday night.

The Savage will take on Cerefino Rodriguez, the Spaniard that landed the vacant title in December, at the Barclaycard Arena, live on Sky Sports.

The clash will be chief support as home-town hero Kal Yafai also defends his WBA World Super-Flyweight title against Suguru Muranaka.

Eggington is full of confidence heading into the bout having stopped former two-weight world champion Paulie Malignaggi at The O2 when last in the ring.

The all-action 23-year-old wants to build on his notable wins over Malignaggi and Frankie Gavin by securing European title glory.

He said: “I have real hunger back after losing to Bradley Skeete and this is massive for me as I never thought I’d reach this level,” said Eggington.

“I had to learn a lot after Skeete. I have grown up and come back strong with wins over Frankie and Paulie. If I can add a win over Rodriguez to those two names and then defend the title well, people will start talking about world titles and I think that I’ve earned the right to be in the conversation for them.”

The event on Saturday also sees Yafai’s brother Gamal defend his WBC International Super-Bantamweight championship against fellow Birmingham man Sean Davis. Ryan Kelly and Adam Harper meet for the Midlands Area Middleweight Title and Gavin is back in action in his first fight with trainer Jon Pegg.

There’s also action for Halesowen's Lennox Clarke, unbeaten Olympian Josh Kelly, Kieron Conway, Aaron Lovell, Jordan Clayton, Charlie Williams and Cori Gibbs.

Limited tickets are on general sale from the Barclaycard Arena priced at £40, £60 and £100, available from barclaycardarena.co.uk.
