HIMLEY skipper Greg Wright was impressed with the professionalism showed by his players this week after a comfortable eight wicket victory at Moseley.

The Stourbridge Road outfit got off to a positive start in Solihull against a side that started the day in second place in Birmingham and District Division One.

After choosing to field, Himley powered through Moseley’s top order, with last week’s star Chris Boroughs (5-28), as well as Jamie Turner (3-28) and Adam Finch (2-32), leaving the home side rattled (117 all out) with their impressive bowling display.

Wright said: “It was a bit of a surprise to be honest, taking nothing away from my team though because they did a great job.

“We’ve not have the best of luck with our bowling this year but it was a good wicket and we took full advantage of it.

“We were picking off what is a very decent top order and I think they were a bit rattled. They were playing some poor shots, but I don’t think either team expected us to get them down to 43-7.

“But even at that point we never thought it would be plain sailing. It was quite the opposite really. The lads kept their heads and put in a very professional first half performance which I was absolutely delighted with.

“With the bat, our top four all did their jobs so we take the points and move on to the next game.

“We prepared for a really tough game and nine times out of 10 you would get that but they just had a poor day.”

Boroughs was as good with the bat as he was with the ball, rattling off an unbeaten 52, including seven fours and two sixes.

The result moves Himley – who are set to host Walmley at home this Saturday (noon start) – up to fourth place in the division, just six points behind second placed Tamworth.

Wright added: “This league is becoming more wide open each year. Anybody can beat anybody else.

“Our away record is better than our home, but we’ve got to go out with a positive mind set because they’re a good side, quite a young side like ourselves, so it should be a good game.

“If we go out and execute our plays like we have been doing then we are a match for anyone in this league.”
