WOLLASTON Lawn Tennis Club produced another day of top quality tennis as its members competed in last Sunday's finals day of its 2017 Annual Club Championships.

Over six6 hours of tennis saw nine adult finals and five junior finals all being contested at the Prestwood Drive Club.

Dave Edwards notched up another men's singles championship, his 15th since taking his first in 1999. He won in straight sets against Chris Brown who was playing in his first singles final.

The ladies singles final was won by Jane Fox. Jane, who was last years beaten finalist and who was playing in only her second final overcame Emily White in a tense match 7-5, 6-2 with the match taking nearly two hours. It was the first time that 16 year old Emily had entered the senior championships.

The men's doubles final was won by Dave Edwards and Pete Talbot. The pair were able to overcome last years beaten finalists Colin Brown and Richard Such 6-2, 6-1. The ladies doubles was won again by Hannah Didlock, this time with partner Amy Fellows in a very close final against Heather Partridge and Kate Downing. Despite winning the first set 6-2, Hannah and Amy then lost the second set on a tie break before taking the final set on a tight championship tie break. The mixed final saw Dave Edwards and Amy Fellows retain their 2016 title with a close but entertaining battle with Chris Brown and Katy Waterhouse.

In the Plate tournament, Paul Jackson took the men's singles final 6-4, 6-4 against Simon Townend. This was the second time Paul has won the men's singles plate final.

The men's doubles plate was won by Adam James and Dave Tranter, beating Paul and Archie Wootton in straight sets. In the ladies doubles, Anita Shinton and Pat Bailey were pushed all the way to a deciding championship decider against Jane Armstrong and Joan Bowles, with Anita and Pat coming out on top 10-7 in the tie break decider.

The mixed plate was won by Ollie McNeillis and Lauren Simmonds, beating Paul Adams and Jane Armstrong in a close but straight sets victory.

WLTC juniors also had a packed day of top tennis. In the senior boys singles tournament, Michael Scriven won his first title in the senior category, overcoming last years beaten finalist Theo Shinton 7-6, 6-2. In a repeat of last years final, the senior girl's final was won by Emily White, achieving victory over Alex Solecki, whilst Charlie Nicholls won the junior boys title beating Harvey Parsons.

In the Junior boys doubles, Michael Scriven and Harvey Parsons overcame Theo Shinton and Charlie Nicholls 7 6 , 6 4 in a very tight match. In the final match of the day Theo Shinton and Emily White beat Michael Scriven and Alex Solecki in junior mixed 6-4, 6-3.

Tournament organiser Max Bywater said: "This was another wonderful club championships. The club is always extra busy at this time of the year, as almost 100 matches are played throughout the tournament. Sunday saw over six hours of quality, competitive tennis played in a great spirit both with the junior and adult finals. It is always one of the highlights of the year."
