Lye Town 2, Coundon Court 4

LYE ladies' good league form deserted them as they suffered a surprising home defeat against Coventry-based Coundon.

Lye were without the key centre back pairing of Erin Hicken and Anna Dabek, and still missing striker Alex Morris with a knee injury, and had to reshuffle defensively.

Lye were below par for most of the game, however there was little between the two sides, but Coundon’s pace on the break and finishing saw them ease into a two goal lead inside the first half hour.

Lye pulled a goal back when Adele Hickman headed home a Chloe Handy corner, but frustratingly, Coundon restored the two goal cushion on the stroke of half time.

With last-season’s leading goal scorer Clare Williamson playing a more defensive role, Lye found clear cut chances hard to come by, although they controlled most of the play in the second half.

Coundon scored a fourth on the break, before Robyn Hingley pulled another goal back for the Lyonesses, with a neat turn and shot inside the 18-yard box.

Lye piled on the pressure in the final ten minutes, but found a third goal elusive, which would have made the final minutes interesting.

Lye have an opportunity to put this first home defeat of the season behind them when they visit Crusaders, who are now top of the table.
