DUDLEY Sports produced a much more determined display despite losing out 2-0 at leading title contenders Wolves Sporting Community in the West Midland League Premier Division.

It took a late goal from Kieron Northwood to seal the points for Wolves Sporting, who are currently on the crest of wave having reached the last 16 of this season's FA Vase.

Sports boss Tony Gore said: "Wolves Sporting were very relieved to get that second goal and celebrated as though they'd won the league title.

"We competed throughout and defended very well.

"If we'd been playing anyone in the bottom half of the table, it would have been enough to win the game.

"We could have easily snatched something from the game, especially as it progressed, because we were getting more and more opportunities.

"It was a marked improvement from the previous week's 4-0 defeat at Stone Old Alleynians and the difference was in the attitude.

"We competed every inch of the way and worked hard throughout."

The match also marked the return of central defender Matt Hanson who has been missing for 18 months after fracturing his leg.

Gore added: "He came on the for the second half and looked comfortable. He'll be much better for that outing".

Sports entertain Wolves Casuals this Saturday at Hillcrest Avenue.
