Stourbridge 3, West Bromwich Albion 1

STOURBRIDGE booked their place in the Birmingham Senior Cup final with victory over a youthful West Bromwich Albion side.

The Glassboys kept alive their last chance of silverware this season in a competition they last won 50 years ago.

Goals from Wolves youngster Aaron Hayden, striker Josh Cook and defender Stuart Pierpoint secured a hard-earned success over the Baggies' under-23s at the War Memorial Ground.

It took Stour just eight minutes to break the deadlock when Wanderers loanee Hayden fired home.

A Tom Tonks long throw from the right was only punched to the edge of the box by keeper Alex Palmer where Hayden lashed it into the bottom corner.

The hosts were quick to snap into challenges to prevent the Baggies from getting into a rhythm early on but the contest remained an evenly balanced affair.

The youthful visitors did find a way back from the penalty spot on 22 minutes. Callum Morton went down after a challenge in the box from Pierpoint before the same player stepped up to level matters.

The Glassboys continued to press high up the pitch to limit Albion's route out of their own half.

Chances remained at a premium as both sides continued to battle for possession in midfield.

Luke Benbow's neat run into the area and powerful low drive was pushed away by Palmer on 37 minutes as the clash stayed all square at the break.

Stour started brightly in the second period as Hayden headed at Palmer before Broadhurst dragged another effort wide.

The home side edged ahead again five minutes after the restart when Cooke latched onto a loose ball just outside the area and unleashed a dipping, curling half volley beyond Palmer.

Stour continued to keep West Brom well at bay with keeper Matt Gould rarely troubled.

He still wasn't worked as Nick Clayton-Phillips blazed well over just before the hour mark or when Alex Bradley curled a free-kick wide of the target soon after.

The visitors began to enjoy more of the ball approaching the 70 minute mark but still the Glassboys worked hard to shut down the space in front of their backline.

Instead it was the hosts that stretched further away when Pierpoint headed home from a 75th minute corner.

Sub Luke Shearer saw a late low effort gathered by the keeper before Stour saw out the closing stages to progress.

They will now face either Nuneaton or Hednesford in the final.
