DUDLEY'S Hartshill Strollers have won through to the regional finals of a major walking football trophy.

The club’s Over 65s team, which is based at the Summerhill School in Kingswinford, beat Birmingham WFC 3-1 in the Walking Football Association National Cup 2018.

The victory came just nine days after their Over 60s won 1-0 – also against Birmingham.

Both regional finals will be held in August. Their opponents have yet to be decided.

The winners will go through to the Grand Finals in September.

The WFA National Cup is walking football’s most prestigious tournament – equivalent to the FA Cup – and involves clubs from all over England.

Hartshill’s Over 60s won the trophy in 2016.

This year they overcame Birmingham with a single goal by midfielder Steve Nicholls.

The super-veterans beat the same club, with two goals from top striker Richard Delahaye and one from Graham Crew.

Bob Haywood, Hartshill’s Over 65s manager, said: “Both victories were very impressive.

“Birmingham are the biggest walking football club in the country and are regarded as being one of the best.

“So to beat them – twice! – is a fantastic achievement. We now hope both squads can go on to the Grand Finals in September.”
