GORNAL Athletic picked up their first win of the season thanks to success at Bromyard last Saturday.

Goals from Connor Potts, Ben Store and Mike Bridges handed ten-man Peacocks a 3-2 away win and a first victory under new boss Lee Wood.

The victory came despite playing most of the game with 10 men due to Ant Cox's dismissal 10 minutes in.

Playing on the break, Gornal found themselves 2-0 up thanks to a Potts penalty and Store's strike. Bridges added a third before the visitors squandered a second penalty to put the game out of reach.

That miss boosted Bromyard who hit back twice but couldn't find a leveller.

Wood said: "It is great to get three points on the board and I thought we definitely deserved it.

"We had to play with 10 men for so long, had to defend but played really well on the break and took our chances.

"In the end we have had to fight really hard at the end and that was really good to see. We showed a great work-rate for each other and a reaction after we lost the first game.

"We were down to the bare bones due to injuries and holidays but those that came in did really well and took their chance in the side."

Athletic will look to build on the win when they host Droitwich Spa at Garden Walk this Saturday (3pm kick-off).
