HAGLEY equestrian star Ellie Turner will fly the flag when she represents Great Britain at the Mounted Games European Championships.
The 15-year-old and her pony Nike will ride for the under-17s team at the championships in Turin later this year.
Haybridge High school pupil Turner will be one of the youngest members of the team.
Proud Mum Sue said: “It’s a fantastic achievement. Ellie is at the bottom end of her age group so all the other members are older than her.
“She is really looking forward to it.”
Mounted Games are a series of relay and obstacle races with riders competing on ponies and competitions arranged for individuals, pairs and teams.
Races involve speed and accuracy with riders sometimes having to dismount if they miss an obstacle — making re-mounting or vaulting a key skill.
Turner has been riding since the age of five and currently competes for Bedfordshire.
Sue added: “Mounted Games isn’t really a sport which gets much attention.
“That’s a real shame as there is a great deal of skill involved and it is often a lot of fun.”
