DUDLEY basketball star Dominique Allen is shooting for Olympic glory after following her father into the international ranks.

The 22-year-old was last week confirmed in the 12-strong Great British women’s squad for the London Games, her first call up to the senior squad.

Allen previously played at under-20s level in the 2008 and 2009 European Championships and also played for the Futures team at the World University Games in Shenzen, China.

After earning the Most Valuable Player award while at Northumbria University in 2007, she transferred to Oklahoma’s Oral Roberts University, where she currently plies her trade.

Allen’s father Clive played 15 seasons in the British Basketball League primarily with Birmingham Bullets, and was an England international.

When naming the squad, British basketball performance director Chris Spice paid particular credit to Allen and fellow newcomer Temi Fagbenle.

He said: “I particularly want to congratulate our two new GB youngsters who have come through our home nation and GB junior ranks in the past few years — Dominque Allen and Temi Fagbenle.

“They have shown this season an incredible willingness to learn but at the same time improved their game and fully deserve their selection in the squad.

“The key now for the team is to continue their development over the coming weeks to ensure we are well prepared come Games time.

“Making the team is one thing, playing well for your country in the Olympic Games is another.”
