FORMER Stourbridge shop worker turned Team GB hockey player Sally Walton has missed out on a chance to vie for an Olympic gold medal.
There was disappointment for the 31-year-old defender, who used to work in Peachy Keen smoothie bar in Market Street, tonight (Wednesday) after GB's women's squad suffered a 2-1 semi-final loss to Argentina which crushed dreams of making it to the final of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Walton, who used to train with Lye bodybuilding coach Jim Charles of Jim's Gym, and her team-mates could still go home with a bronze medal though.
They will play New Zealand on Friday August 10 at London's Riverbank Arena - for a chance to become the first GB women's hockey team to win an Olympic medal in 20 years.
The last and only medal ever won by Britain in women's hockey was a bronze in Barcelona in 1992.
