HALESOWEN race ace Bradley Hughes finished a solid eighth in the latest round of the British Motostar Championship.

The 15-year-old was making his first outing for Team-Repli-cast Racing at Assen after they stepped in when one of his major sponsors pulled out, forcing Hughes to miss the previous round at Donington.

It was always going to be a difficult weekend for the youngster but after walking the course on Thursday, he set about learning his way around in Friday’s free practice.

By the time qualifying began the next day he was already shaving eight seconds off his previous best and qualified 25th on the grid in Holland.

Hughes moved up to 23rd overall on the first lap and continued to make good progress throughout the 12 lap race.

He crossed the line in 20th overall, the 10th British rider home and eighth in the Motostar Cup for junior riders.

Hughes is now 11th in the Motostar Cup and 15th in the British Championship with two rounds to go, the next of which takes place this weekend at Silverstone.
