Quigley season ends with high speed crash

LUKE Quigley’s British Superbikes season came to an abrupt end with a high-speed crash.

The Brierley Hill racer took a tumble while running 22nd on lap five of the first race at Brands Hatch last Saturday.

Quigley lost the front of his GB Moto Honda as he tipped into Paddock Hill Bend. Fortunately he slid clear of the bike as it cartwheeled through the gravel trap.

After initially suspecting he had dislocated his left shoulder, Quigley was able to walk away from the incident without any serious injury. Nevertheless, the decision was taken on Sunday morning that he would take no further part in the remaining two races.

Quigley said: “We decided that, unfortunately, I would not be fit enough to race on Sunday.

“Although the shoulder was not dislocated, it had strained the joint. It was sore and I didn’t have the strength in it to throw a superbike around for two 20 lap races.”

“Brands Hatch hasn’t been very kind to me this season. The first round was cut short due to the conditions and then I missed the races last time we were he because of injury.”

“It is obviously a shame for the season to end in this way. Everyone has worked really hard to try and make the whole package more competitive but we haven’t been able to deliver the race results.”
