Hi, I'm Matt Maher, a reporter for the Halesowen News, and my blog focus will be on sport USA. From 90 yard punt returns, fumbles in the endzone, three pointers, walk-off homers, cheerleaders and hilarious commentary - nothing quite matches the razzmatazz, drama, excitement and sheer arrogance of American sports. NFL, NHL, NBA, NCAA, MLB or MLL (that’s Major League Lacrosse if you didn’t know) there’s no shortage of fun to be seen in the most overpaid and overhyped leagues in the world. And I love it all. Each week I’ll be giving my views on the big stories causing bar stool debates on the other side of the Atlantic. I’ll try and keep things light-hearted and humorous - though being an avid supporter of both the luckless Chicago Cubs and the woeful Cincinnati Bengals this shouldn’t be too much of a problem! It all kicks off with a trip to Wembley where the New Orleans Saints take on the San Diego Chargers in what has become a crucial game for both teams. Watch this space for an account of what should be a great day and hopefully a great game.

Back to the future

2013 begins just like 2012, with the Bengals aiming for a play-off win in Houston.

NFL: I don't hate Carson, I actually feel quite sorry for him

FOR the neutral, Oakland’s visit to Cincinnati this Sunday doesn’t exactly leap out as a must-see game.

Once more into the breach

A 17th game for Cincinnati you say? That can only mean one thing, the Bengals are back in the play-offs but the biggest question remains - can they win a game?

Who remembers predictions anyhow?

With the Bengals at 7-4 and chasing a play-off berth, it's time to look back at some of the statements I made earlier in the season. Humble pie never tasted so good....

That's not entertainment

THE Bengals have started the season 1-2 and it's all been a bit too predictable. Isn't it time to take a few risks?

Saints and Packers banish Maroon 5 memories to open the season in style

THE NFL bounced back into our lives last night as the Super Bowl champion Packers beat the Saints in a thrilling season opener. Even the dire pre-game concert couldn't ruin things...

I hate to sound negative but....

...did you see the Bengals-Detroit score? The pre-season which seemingly couldn't get any worse just did.

Bengals rollercoaster goes only down

THE NFL has been back for barely a week but already the signs are not good in Cincinnati. It's looking set to be one long season......

You disappoint me Carson, I had such high hopes for us

AS this is my first blog for five months let’s get the easy cliche straight out of the way - are you ready for some football!?

Ein was für Spiel zum zu beenden! (or "What a game to finish!" as that hopefully translates)

The NFL season is over and we won't see any more action for seven months, or possibly longer. That means it's time to round up the Super Bowl and apologise to any Germans for mangling their language.
