Boss backs Geddes to rediscover top form

GARY Hackett says Sean Geddes has the right character to regain his place in the Stourbridge side.

The midfielder, last season’s player-of-the-year, has been out of the starting line-up the past two games but came off the bench to score the only goal from the penalty spot at Kettering Town last Saturday.

Hackett says he has been impressed by Geddes’ reaction to being dropped.

He said: “I have had a long chat with Sean and he realises that of late his form has not been up to his usual standard.

“He has a lot of belief in himself and did well when he came on last Saturday.

“It took a lot of bottle to put the penalty away at what was a crucial time.

“I know he will fight for his place. Being able to take Sean out of the side shows what a strong squad we have.”

Hackett felt his side deserved the win at Kettering but admitted they had “played better and lost” this season.

Attentions have now switched to Saturday’s trip to Banbury United.

The Glassboys hammered the Puritans 8-1 at the War Memorial back in September but the Spencer Stadium has been a far from happy hunting ground for them over the years, something Hackett is keen to rectify.

He said: “It’s about time we won at Banbury and we will definitely be looking for three points this Saturday.

“Last season we lost there 4-0, it was our worst performance of the campaign and one I have not forgotten.

“I’m not a great believer in luck, we have to go there and play at our best.”

Stour have now won six league games on the road, as many as they managed all last season.

Hackett added: “I think I said at the start of the season I wanted to improve our away form.

“We have done that, though our home form through the first quarter of the season was pretty abysmal. We won’t be getting carried away. It’s still very much a case of taking one game at a time.”
