Mole calls on struggling Causeway to fight

ANDY Mole says everyone must pull together if Causeway United are to escape relegation danger.

United are only three points clear of the Midland Alliance bottom three having won just one of their last seven league games.

Even more concerning is the fact the four teams immediately below them all have games in hand and Mole admitted the situation was becoming urgent, rejecting the notion his side might be sleepwalking toward disaster.

He said: “I think the players realise the seriousness of the situation.

“If they weren’t aware of it before the certainly are now after the last few games.

“I was always of the belief we would string a few results together and pull away but at the moment we are not reacting to the battle.

“The little mistakes are costing us. We are letting in sloppy goals and finding it hard to score.

“I don’t think it’s the players who are the problem, I think they are good enough but perhaps mentally not in the right place at the moment.

“We need everyone pulling together. At the moment we have pockets of players doing well but not all at the same time.”

Causeway crashed to a 2-1 defeat at home to bottom-of-the-table Ellesmere Rangers on Saturday where they conceded twice in the opening seven minutes, before losing 2-0 at Gornal Athletic on Tuesday despite an improved performance.

The good news is that, at least on paper, the next two games look winnable.

Tonight they host out-of-sorts Tividale at the War Memorial, while Monday sees them visit Continental Star, a side just three points behind in the table but with six games in hand.

Mole admitted to tactical uncertainty after strikers Aaron Lloyd and Stuart How were both benched for Tuesday’s game at Gornal.

He said: “At the minutes I’m not sure whether to go defensive and rest the luxury players, as I did on Tuesday, or whether to go out and attack.

“We went 3-4-3 on Saturday and ended up being 2-0 down in the opening few minutes.”

Cradley Town suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Wolves Casuals on Tuesday. Duane Darby’s side host Bartley Green on Saturday, before making the short trip to Lye Town on Tuesday.
