Mole sets relegation battle target
6:00pm Thursday 21st March 2013 in Football
ANDY Mole believes Causeway United need at least three or four more wins to dodge the Midland Alliance trapdoor.
United ended their winless run with a much-needed 3-1 win at relegation rivals Continental Star on Monday night.
The win moved them up to 16th place but the good form of teams around them, coupled with uncertainty over exactly how many sides will drop from the 22 team division, means Mole knows he cannot relax.
He said: “It was great to finally get a win but we are not out of the woods by a long, long way.
“I think we are definitely going to need another three or four wins. We need to get to that 40-point target.
“The problem is everyone else is winning and sometimes things don’t develop in the way you expect.
“You go to bed at night and when you wake up the table has changed again.
“Then there’s the fact we don’t know how many clubs are going down, will it be two or will it be three?
“I think the best way is to finish outside the bottom three and then you have nothing to worry about.”
Mole has boosted his forward line with the signing of Duncan Willetts, a player who last appeared for Causeway back in 2010 before leaving the area.
Mole added: “Duncan currently works in London and will be available from time to time.”
Causeway host Rocester on Saturday, before entertaining Continental Star in a return fixture on Tuesday.
n Duane Darby has told his Cradley Town players to follow the Lye if they want to be successful.
The Hammers gave neighbours and West Midlands Premier League leaders Lye Town a huge scare on Tuesday night, taking the lead on three occasions before eventually going down 4-3.
Darby was both disappointed at the result but proud of his players, who he hopes will develop the same fighting spirit as their near neighbours.
He said: “I think we are moving in the right direction, we have played some of the division’s best sides since I took over and we have run them close.”
The Hammers visit Bromyard Town on Saturday.
