Cricketers clinch Twenty20 riches
3:37pm Thursday 29th August 2013 in Football
STOURBRIDGE turned the formbook upside down and made themselves £1,000 richer in the process by winning the Black Country Twenty20 title.
The Amblecote side had already pulled out all the stops by beating higher ranked hosts Himley and then Brewood to book their place in the final against Wolverhampton.
In a rain-reduced affair, Stourbridge chased down a Wolverhampton total of 138 for nine off 15 overs, West Indian overseas player Audy Alexander guiding the side home with 49 not out after Adam Lawley had earlier taken 3-23 and then scored 28.
Lawley was later named man-of-the-match, while acting skipper Alexander was voted player of the competition.
Event organiser Greg Wright confirmed the competition, which was sponsored by Banks Brewery, Lenson and Horizon Air Conditioning had proved a huge success with crowds of between 200 and 300 turning up every evening of the competition.
He added: “This is the fourth year of the competition and we’ve had three different winners so far. There’s every indication the competition will now become an annual event.”
