Causeway stage a formidable finish

CAUSEWAY United had hugely contrasting fortunes in this week’s Midland Alliance.
They suffered a 2-1 defeat at Heath Hayes on Saturday but then staged a storming recovery on Bank Holiday Monday when they beat Gornal Athletic 4-1, having gone a goal down on 79 minutes.
Manager Andy Mole said: “We took our time against Gornal, but we deserved the win. We could have easily scored eight by half-time.
“It had been the same at Heath Hayes, because we should have been 4-0 up by half time.
“Although they took the lead, we equalised through Wisdom Marchangani and I thought we’d be alright from that point.
“But they got another goal and try as we might, we just couldn’t score again.”
Johvan Blake-Walker finally levelled for Causeway before Alex Cowley cracked home two goals within the space of five minutes.
Aaron Lloyd then made it 4-1 as Gornal’s defence fell apart.
The only downside for Causeway was the fact new signing from Bromsgrove Sporting Carl Gardener got himself sent off as both sides finished the game with 10 men.
Mole is still looking to add a striker to his squad ahead of Saturday’s trip to Westfields.
n Cradley Town crashed 5-3 at Wellington Amateurs in the West Midlands League.
A goal from Pete Robinson got Cradley back on level terms at 1-1 but late strikes from Chris Bladen and Spencer Blackham were little more than consolations as Wellington should have won by a wider margin.
Cradley host Shifnal Town on Saturday.
