Moore fires home late winner to lift Lye
11:25am Thursday 12th September 2013 in Football
LYE Town left it late into stoppage time before snatching a 2-1 win over Ellesmere Rangers to move into third in West Midlands League Premier Division.
Full-back Scott Moore slammed home the late winner after Ben Jevons had earlier fired Lye into a 65th minute lead.
The result atoned for their FA Vase exit at Bromsgrove Sporting last Saturday.
Lye joint-boss Martin Thomas said: “That (Sporting game) was the worst we’ve played in the three year since Darren Goodall and myself have been in charge. “We got exactly what we deserved — nothing!
“We asked the players for a performance against Ellesmere and got it. “We passed the ball and we played it.”
Lye entertain Bromyard Town on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Dudley Sports staged a stunning second half recovery to beat Sporting Khalsa 3-2.
Sports joint-boss Tony Gore described his side’s display as fantastic.
He said: “I’ve been critical of them quite a bit this season, but they were all superb to a man against Khalsa”.
Last season’s leading West Midlands League marksman Liam Hughes fired Khalsa into an early lead before Ben Habbershaw struck a second just before half-time.
Ben Mantom pulled a goal back for Sports early within two minutes of the second half before substitute Dom Strevens struck twice, adding to his previous weeks hat-trick against Bartley Green.
Sports travel to Willenhall Town on Saturday and then host Lye next Tuesday.
