ANDY Wyton says his Gornal Athletic side must take at least six points from their next three games if they are to challenge for the West Midlands Regional title.

Sporting Khalsa sit top of the table having won six from six, while Athletic have lost twice, including at tonight’s opposition Haughmond.

“I’d say we can’t afford to lose any more than five or six all season, and that may be too many,” said Wyton.

“We lost to Haughmond at home when we battered them, but Bridgnorth deserved to beat us. I doubt Khalsa will lose many with their set-up and money, so we need six points and preferably seven to nine points from our next three games.”

Following Haughmond, Gornal entertain Shawbury United on Saturday then next Tuesday go to Wellington Amateurs.

On Saturday they enjoyed a 4-2 win over Wolverhampton Sporting Community.

Leading 2-0 and hitting the bar four times in 20 minutes, they were then pegged back by goals either side of half time before eventually coming through.

Wyton said: “That’s a game we may have lost earlier in the season. We should have been out of sight and, if we could have got the third goal, we could have had seven or eight but fair play to them they hung in there.

“But the lads showed character to get us the win.”
