STOURBRIDGE FC boss Gary Hackett hailed his side’s spirit after they gained instant revenge over Cambridge City.
The Glassboys beat City 3-1 at Amblecote on Tuesday, just seven days after they were hammered 6-1 by the same opposition.
Hackett’s side produced some eye-catching football, capped by Sam Rock’s excellent strike which handed them a 2-1 lead.
Hackett said: “We have got to be especially pleased, tremendous credit must go to the players.
“We didn’t play Saturday so they were still brooding, they have taken a lot of stick and I always felt they would bounce back in the right way.
“It just goes to show that no two games of football are the same.”
On Rock’s performance he added: “I’m delighted for Sam, his form over the last six weeks has been excellent, all we were looking for was the icing on the cake.
“We have been asking him to pull the trigger and he did just that.”
Hackett also praised his defence, which has been boosted by the decision of Sam Smith to turn down an offer from rivals Halesowen Town and remain at Amblecote.
Smith, who was made captain for Tuesday’s game, had previously rejected a move to Hednesford Town in December.
Hackett said: “I think it just shows that money isn’t everything in football.
“Sam is looking to the future and sees his future at Stourbridge at this particular time.
“He is developing as a player and as a person.”
There is little time for Stour to dwell on their victory as they face a busy week with the visit of Chippenham Town on Saturday (kick-off 3pm), followed by league leaders Farnborough on Tuesday (7.45pm).
Hackett is aware his side must be on top form for both games.
He said: “Chippenham are just starting to find form and they don’t come any tougher than Farnborough.
“But we have players who on their day can beat anybody. We have been relatively conistant but this is a tough, tough league.
“If you take your foot off the gas you will get punished.”
