STOURBRIDGE showed both sides of their character this week.

They allowed two points to slip from their grasp last Saturday as they drew 1-1 with Hitchin.

But they underlined their resolve on Tuesday night when they recovered from going a goal down to beat Bedford Town 2-1.

Manager Gary Hackett admitted it was the best and worst of his side.

Luke Benbow bagged a 13th-minute opener against Hitchin following fine play from Kayelden Brown and new signing Netan Sansara.

The Glassboys went on to create a number of openings but it looked as though Benbow’s early strike would separate the sides until the final minut, when goalkeeper Dean Coleman brought down Hitchin substitute Gary Wharton.

Coleman was sent off, with Jamie Oliver taking over between the posts, only to be beaten by the resulting Garry Jones free kick.

The Glassboys found themselves 1-0 down after 54 minutes against a Bedford side who belied their lowly position.

Urged on by former Cambridge United striker Alan Biley, Bedford looked set for a shock win.

Sean Geddes had gone close on numerous occasions, hitting the post with a free kick for good measure before the Glassboys struck with two goals in a minute from Luke Benbow and Kayledon Brown.

Stourbridge started the game with striker Ryan Rowe on the bench.

The Glassboys must now wait for Kidderminster Harriers to decide his future as his loan deal from them expires on January 14.

Hackett revealed: “We’ve sat down with Ryan and made him an offer – but everything is up in the air following Steve Burr’s departure from Kidderminster.

“It’s up to Kidderminster to decide what to do with Ryan as he’s still under contract.

“I feel a bit sorry for Ryan because he doesn’t know where he stands.”

DUDLEY Town will be hoping to get their West Midlands League campaign back on track this Saturday when they visit Tipton-based Bustleholme after this week’s crunch clash with Wolves Casuals was called off through wet weather.

NEIGHBOURS Dudley Sports will be equally eager for a return to action as they are due to visit rock bottom Dudley Sports.

TEAM Dudley have a top-of-the-table clash with FC Stafford in West Midlands League Division Two. The game takes place at the Dell Stadium, with kick-off 2pm.

ENVILLE Athletic’s Midland Combination Division Two contest with bottom side Inkberrow was also rained off. They have no fixture this Saturday.
