GARY Hackett admits Stourbridge face a waiting game over the future of Paul McCone.

The popular defender is currently on trial at Kidderminster Harriers and played in Aggborough side’s friendly wins at Stafford Rangers and Stratford Town.

But McCone, who is not on contract at Stour, also turned out for the Glassboys at Bewdley Town on Tuesday and Hackett is happy to wait and see what transpires.

He said: “Paul loves it at Stourbridge but Kidderminster is a club which is full-time.

“They are currently having a look at him and if in a week or so they decide to offer him something then we will talk about it.

“He is a great lad and I’ve got nothing but praise for him. He conducts himself very well and has a level head.

“He is extremely well thought of at Stourbridge and for me he is in a win-win situation.”

Hackett says the Glassboys must accept their success on the pitch in recent seasons has cast extra attention on their young stars.

But he believes the club has also become an attractive proposition for players looking to get back into the professional game, thanks in part to their style of play. He said: “We are doing something right if we are getting full-time football clubs looking at our players. We are mindful there are opportunities out there.

“I feel we already have a reputation for playing good football. For young players looking to get back into the league game they need to be able to show that.

"There are some non-league clubs at our level who don’t play football the way we do.”

Sean Evans scored a stunning goal from the halfway line as Stour racked up a 7-0 win at Bewdley on Tuesday night.

The Glassboys now travel to Stourport Swifts tonight and Rushall Olympic on Saturday, before the club’s blue-riband friendly with Mansfield Town at the War Memorial on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, Hackett confirmed the club would look to agree a deal with midfielder Tom Turton, after the former Albion trainee impressed in pre-season.
