GLASSBOYS boss Gary Hackett believes supporters saw the best and worst of his side over the past couple of games.

Having seen Hitchin snatch a late equaliser on Saturday in a 1-1 draw, Stourbridge then claimed a 2-1 win over Bedford Town on Tuesday.

Hackett insisted: “The better performance was against Hitchin. We had enough chances in that games to have won three matches!

“For the first 45minutes against Bedford, we were as poor as we’ve been for the past couple of years.

“Bedford surprised us a bit, they had some very good individual players and I think the lad who scored their goal had only been signed that day from Stevenage.

“We didn’t play well, but we kept plodding away and the difference between that game and Hitchin was the fact we took our chances”.

Hackett refuses to give up on the Southern League Premier title but admits it will take a ‘monumental task’ to catch leaders Hemel Hempstead who remain 21 points clear of the Glassboys following their victory over Bideford on Tuesday.

Hackett points out: “There’s still 63 points to play for, so it’s still far too early to talk about where we’re going to finish.

“If this was a half term report, it would say we’ve done well, but could do better.

Hackett included new signing, former Walsall defender Netan Sansara, in the games against Hitchin and Bedford, saying: “He fitted in very well and if I can strengthen further, I will. If I think there’s a player out there who can improve the side, at the right terms, then of course I’m interested.”

Stourbridge face the long trip to Cornish side Truro this Saturday, which will require an overnight stay in Plymouth.

Hackett added: “It’s just too far to travel on the day and we need to prepare properly.”
