MANAGER Dave King has spoken of his pride after Tividale's valiant FA Cup defeat to Rushden and Diamonds.

A brace from Dan Smith twice had Dale ahead in the tie at the Beeches last Saturday before their higher-ranked visitors fought back to bag a 3-2 success.

Despite going out of the famous competition, King was full of praise for his players.

He said: "I was just very proud of them all.

"We were very close to pulling off a big shock. They have had a nice little cup run and beat two side from higher levels to get to this stage.

"I just wanted the players to do themselves justice and they did exactly that.

"Even though we lost hopefully the fixture can be something to build on for us.

"We had a good turnout from the fans and played some really good stuff. It was great to see some old faces back on the ground and it'd be great if they decide to stick with us for the rest of the season.

"It was a great day to be involved in football."

Tivi are again in cup action this Saturday when they welcome Brocton in the FA Vase (3pm kick-off).

"The players have had a taste of a cup run now and will be looking for more of the same," added King. "We'll be doping all we can to progress again.

"It's been a good start to the season. We have won four out of five in the league and been on a nice run little in the cup."
