GORNAL are gunning for promotion after securing Wem Town win, says manager Matt Fisher.

Athletic won 2-1 against their title rivals thanks to a Liam Hickman strike and a second-half Andy Arnold penalty at Garden Walk last Saturday.

The third-placed Peacocks are now 10 points off leaders Newport Town but have a game in hand and still have to play the pacesetters again this season.

Fisher said: "It was an end-to-end game against Wem and both sides showed their credentials of being strong at the back and threatening going forwards.

"We had three one-on-ones that we missed and had another cleared off the line as well. We had the chances to make the game safe but in the end did enough for the win.

"We are going for promotion now. The lads are focused and the togetherness in the squad is fantastic."

They will now welcome Telford Juniors this Saturday (3pm kick-off) as they look to cut the gap further.

Skipper Ben Podmore will be back in contention after missing the Wem win.
