Liberals take the honours

There were two 8-2 hammerings in the latest round of matches in the Dudley Thursday League, Cradley Liberals against Langley and Nordley Libs over Coombs Wood.

DMBEC take some stopping on their own green and they swept aside Broomfield in division two 8-2.

That was also the score by which Baggeridge beat Romsley in division three and not to be outdone Somers beat Woodman Saltwells by the same score as did Harborne against Ashwood.

It was was also an 8-2 score line in division four for Dudley Dell against Tallboats but Netherton Cons did even better with a 9-1 plus over West Brom Supporters.

In division five Romsley beat Baggeridge 9-1 and it was by the same score that Pheasant flew in against Netherton Cons.

There were two 7-4 away wins in division six by Pensnett Social at Dudley Sports and Old Chapel at Brades Village.

It was a Conservative drubbing by the Gate in division seven firstly beating Priory House Cons 9-1 and then repeating that winning margin over Kingswinford Cons.

Dudley Ladies have been allocated one pair in the finals of the Dorothy Piearce Memorial pairs at the Castlefields BC Shrewsbury on Sunday August 9.

Greg Smith from the Gate BC Oldbury became the first player to retain the Warwick and Worcester Junior Merit title he defeated Jon Palmer 21-15 in the final.

Mark Picknell won the Staffordshire County Senior Merit in 1990 and repeated that success when he defeated Nordley Liberals club mate Dave Evans 21-14 in the final to take the prize again.

Dudley Dell beat Heath Hayes by 22 in the Summit Garage sponsored League Division One.

Nathan Dawes from the White Horse is the Dudley League Junior Merit Champion. After a narrow 18-16 win in the last eight against Chris Watts from Old Cross he then beat Paul Bates from Dudley Sports 18-13 in his semi.

In the final the Quarry Bank youngster took the prize with a 21-18 victory over Adam Millar from Brades Village.

The 2008 Junior Waterloo will revert back to its one day format following the lack of interest in qualifying dates. Finals day will be August 24.
