STOURBRIDGE SNOOKER LEAGUE.

There was a pause in league action to continue the progress of the team knockout events and Pockets SC found the tables of Stourbridge Institute very much to their liking.

They took control of the green baize to win by 384 points despite conceding 109 points before the start.

15-year-old Andrew Smith made a break of 94 when looking to set to clear up with a century, while his dad Gary produced a 99 clearance in the last frame.

Stuart Taylor and David Flavell’s winning margins were enough for Wombourne A to see off the challenge of Baggeridge Social B.

While the great start given by Andy Barnett and Darren Corbett proved sufficient for Netherton Liberals to hold the challenge of Brandhall Labour.

Amblecote Institute F made the best possible start on the tables of Kingswinford RBL B when Bob Randle and Carl Butcher won by a combined margin of 101 points and they never looked in danger of defeat aftewards.

In the Plate competition, Carl Williams gave Amblecote RBL A a great start with a break of 75 but Kingswinford Cons B from the second division fought back well to beat their premiership opponents with John Cartwright and Fred Dent winning their frames.

West Midlands Police faced a difficult task in conceding 75 points start to Hot Shots SCA but Steve Mason’s 42 break and good contributions by Steve Wakefield, Pete Gibbons and Darren Oakes produced a comfortable victory.

Stourbridge Institute B’s Nick Aston pulled back Kingswinford Cons C’s advantage on his own but the Cons recovered thanks to a great effort by Graham Lewis and narrow victories by Sam Smith, Sam Porter and Brian Willetts.

Although Tim Carter won well for Kingswinford SC at Amblecote Inst D, the home team’s Colin Homer was in particularly good form to see his side through to a comfortable success.

Stourbridge B won their away match at Ladywood Snooker Club to secure a place in the last 16 of the West Midland Inter Town competition, where they will face Coseley in another away fixture on January 23.

The team played well to win 6-1 against determined opponents, but the best snooker was played by Luke Higginbotham who did particularly well on the table with practice by local professional Adrian Gunnell.
