STOURBRIDGE Running Club’s Matt Giles has been selected to run for England at the Mountain and Ultra Running Commonwealth Championships being staged at Keswick in September.
The event sees top athletes from the Commonwealth compete in this tough race. Matt will be running the 100km road race. There will also be mountain running races and a 24hour race. Details can be found at www.cumbriacommonwealthchampionships.org
Club members Simon Link and Kevin Burke both had outstanding runs at the recent Shifnal Steeple Chase Half Marathon. This is a mainly road race between the churches of Shifnal, Ryton, Beckbury and Kemberton before returning to Shifnal. Simon finished in fifth place overall and was the first male veteran over 45 to cross the line in a time of 1 hour 24 minutes 38 seconds.
Kevin Burke was the first male veteran over 50 to cross the line in a time of 1hr 32m 11s, finishing 18th overall.
A number of Stourbridge Running Club members took part in the Birmingham & Black Country Half Marathon on Saturday.
Malcolm Carr was best placed Stourbridge runner, finishing in 16th place with a time of 1hr 32m 31s. Joan Clarke was the fourth best female in 1hr 41m 09s, Dave Sheppard came 84th in 1hr 42m 10s, Dave O' Toole 140th in 1hr 46m 59s, Bob Hopkins 146th in 1hr 47m 17s, Hilary Le Geyt 247th in 1hr 55m 21s, Chris Barnett 277th in 1hr 57m 17s, Natalie Dellar 345th in 2hrs 03m 01s, Shirley Porter 540th in 2hrs 22m 03s, Helen Hopkins 606th in 2hrs 36m 41s, Julia Martin 617th in 2hrs 44m 58s and Elaine Sheppard brought the team home 636th in 3hrs 27m 46s.
Andy Davies & Dawn Bishop had a great day at the Top Barn Double Sprint Triathlon, which consisted of a 1500 metre swim, 55km cycle and 10km run.
Andy finished in fourth place with a fantastic time of 2hrs 41m 16s in his first triathlon after injury last October. Dawn was eighth lady to cross the line in a time of 3hrs 22m 41s.
Tony Warner’s Ironman UK training continues to go well as he proved in the recent Bala middle distance triathlon in which he finished tenth in his category in 5hrs 14mins 27s. Dawn Bishop also had a great result, finishing in 30th place in her category in a time of 5hrs 48m 41s.
