ATHLETICS ONCE again Stourbridge were a show of force at the recent JW Ultra 30 mile race.
Dave Rose, Ant Homer and Mark Higgs won the first male relay team prize, while the team of Mike Anslow (who also ran the full 30 mile ultra race – coming seventh overall in 1hr 16mins), Matt Raden and Tim Gardner were the third relay team to cross the line.
Louise Collins won the prize for second lady in the Ultra, finishing in a time of 4hrs 6mins with Joan Clarke having yet another great run winning first lady veteran with a time of 4hrs 18mins – a personal best by 32 minutes!
Natalie Dellar completed the 30miles in 5hrs 23mins Many other Stourbridge runners took part in the relay including Bob Hopkins, Greer Batty, Dave Sheppard, Dawn Bishop, Sharon Kibble, Paul Bradley, Simon Willington, Chris Barnet, Julia Martin, Nikki Davis, Stuart Hannan, Helen Hopkins, Ingrid Cain and Maureen Tranter.
Mercer Shuttle 10k A number of Stourbridge runners took part in this 10k event, many of whom had run in the JW Ultra the day before.
It was a good course with one steep hill near the start but after that good running.
Joan Clarke was the only Stourbridge lady to take part and finished in 46mins 39secs, in 62nd place and claiming the 1st veteran 50 prize – a great run the day after completing the 30 mile JW Ultra.
Peter Walters finished 16th in 39mins 25secs (7th senior man) with Dave Rose 21st with a time of 40mins 24secs (4th vet 45), Rose had also run a 10mile leg in the JW Ultra the day before, James Douglas finished in 40mins 59secs, Kirk Andrews 44mins 37secs, Laurence Leeming-Latham 45min 43secs, James Sutton 47min 15secs, Ian Clarke 47mins 47secs (1st vet 55) and also his best 10km time this year, and Richard Dawson 48min 07secs.
Kinver Rotary 10k Simon Link had yet another impressive run, finishing in third place. He came across the line in 36mins 48secs for second place in his age category.
Mark Garratt was only one minute behind Link in fifth place overall, claiming third place in his age category.
Ross Middleton also had a good run, finishing in 42mins 59secs, followed by Kieran Pitt (48mins 54secs), Hilary Le Geyt (51mins 29secs) and Hannah Skinner (1hr 6mins).
