Saxons look for perfect finish

IT’S a case of one down, two to go for Stourbridge RFC chief Neil Mitchell.

His already-relegated Stourton Park side saw off Barking 29-22 at the weekend and head to Cambridge on Saturday looking for another victory as they bid to finish the season on a high.

Mitchell said: “We wanted to win all three of our remaining games with five points from each.

“Key to that is the Cambridge game — they will be well supported but we need to do a job on them.

“With Cambridge and Tynedale to come then it should be in our own hands if we are to finish top of this bottom three.”

The Saxons picked up the bonus-point against Barking thanks to tries from backs Sam Baker, Nathan Bressington and Ben Barkley with replacement front-row Adam Sturdy rounding things off.

But Mitchell was annoyed the basement club were able to pick up a double bonus after grabbing their fourth try with the final move of the game.

He said: “The disappointing thing against Barking was that we lost concentration. I wanted a tight game because we need to go to Cambridge with a tight defence.

“If we had played the phases we would have had another try and eased the pressure but as it was we ended up giving them two points at the end.”
