Mitch says Stour can't wait for Lucs contest

NEIL Mitchell admits dominant Stourbridge RFC are looking forward to a contest when they host Luctonians this Saturday.

The league-leaders have coasted to victory in all five of their National Two North games so far, having yet to trail at any point.

The Saxons’ dominance in the forward line was once again evident last Saturday as they demolished Bromsgrove 47-15 in a one-sided derby at Finstall Park.

But director of rugby Mitchell knows third-placed Luctonians pose a different threat altogether and believes his pack cannot expect to have things all their own way.

He said: “The difference up front in our games so far has been considerable.

“We know for a fact Luctonians have been doing what we have been doing, which is bullying teams with their pack.

“It’s going to be a really testing time for our forwards but what we are actually looking forward to a contest.

“I think we will learn a lot about ourselves as a team this weekend.”

With a tough looking trip to Caldy and a home game with Otley also on the horizon, Mitchell rejected talk his side’s serene progress so far could lead to complacency.

He said: “I don’t think there is any fear of complacency when you look at the next three weeks.

“I have looked long and hard at this league and in particular the points differentials.

“Ours is already more than 100 which is considerable at such an early stage of the season.

“The teams with big points differentials who are winning games comfortably are the ones we need to worry about and we are playing one of them this weekend.”

Drew Harper scored a hat-trick of tries and Sione Tu’ipolotu bagged a brace as Stour routed the Boars, securing the bonus point inside 32 minutes as they raced into a 28-0 lead.

Mitchell was initially critical of his side after they allowed the hosts to cross twice in the second-half but looking back believes he may have been harsh.

He said: “On reflection maybe I was a bit hard on our guys.

“The game was effectively done after just half-an-hour and when you have such a big lead it can be tough to stay focused.

“Overall the defence was excellent though perhaps we were guilty of going a little bit rogue after half-time.”
