Peacocks aim to clip Robins wings
GORNAL Athletic boss Simon Williams has issued a rallying call to his under pressure squad as they prepare to clip the wings of their fierce rivals Dudley Town on Saturday.
The struggling Peacocks will be hoping to ruffle the feathers of the high-flying Robins in a bid to kick-start a stuttering West Midlands Premier Division season.
Williams has been hit by injuries suspensions and the departure of key players over the last few months and has now set about rebuilding the squad.
Athletic will go into the game on the back of a 4-2 defeat against Dudley Sports, which leaves them in 19th position.
Wiliams said: "The season just hasn't gone to plan for one reason or another but we are determined to turn it around.
"I look around this league and there is no team who frightens me.
"The problem is we just can't get our best team out on the pitch, which is very frustrating."
The boss, having lost the services of Danny Cruddington to AFC Wulfs and Stuart Ward to Pelsall Villa, has been able to snap up a trio of new players.
Midfielder Lee Dukes and forward Ryan Edmunds have both come in from Bobbington while defender Luke Bradley has joined from Cradley Town.
Williams added: "We are trying to re-build the team here and the three young lads will help us achieve that.
"I would imagine over the next couple of weeks we will see plenty more comings and goings."
The Robins will go into the clash with their near neighbours on the back of a creditable 2-2 draw away at league leaders Bridgnorth, courtesy of a 90th minute equaliser from Peter Wood followed by a 2-1 defeat away at Shawbury on Tuesday.
The midweek defeat did see the re-appearance of Justin Nisbett who had moved from to Dudley to Willenhall earlier this month.
In-form Dudley Sports have moved to third in the table following their win over the Peacocks.
The management duo of Paul Blakeley and Neil Perks will be hoping to keep their side's impressive run of form going when they welcome mid-table AFC Wulfrunians to Hillcrest Avenue.
Lye Town will be hoping to bounce back form a disappointting 3-1 defeat away at Ledbury.
Geoff Moss' men will be hoping a return to Stourbridge Road on Saturday, when they entertain Ludlow, will get them back on the winning track.
Brierley and Withymoor will travel to Brdignorth this Saturday licking their wounds after they were beaten 4-0 at home by Darlaston.
The troubles off the field at Tividale seem to be taking their toll on the field as Ross Hill's men slipped to their third straight defeat after going down 3-1 away at Ludlow.
Tivi will be hoping to end this unwanted run of results away at Ellesmere on Saturday.
