HAVING had the best season of his career in Australia, Worcestershire new boy Steve Magoffin is hoping he can transfer that form on to the county circuit.

The Western Warriors seamer arrived in England last week, having been named in the All-stars Pura Cup XI and the All-stars Ford Ranger Cup XI as well as winning the Western Australia players' player of the year award.

The 29-year-old took 35 wickets at 25.48 in the four-day game Down Under and, in the one-day Ford Ranger Cup, he claimed 14 at 27.21 apiece.

Queensland-born Magoffin is no 90mph-plus bowler and he doesn't swing the ball both ways either, but he does try to follow in the footsteps of a former New Road import.

"I try and emulate people like Glenn McGrath and Stuart Clark," he said. "My role in the Western Australian team is basically being the economical bowler.

"I'm a line-and-length man. I try and put the ball in the same spot, build up pressure on the batsmen and get wickets myself or help the guy at the other end to get them.

"Statistically, I have come over on the back of my best season in Australia and, even without the wickets, that has probably been the best that I have bowled."

With an impressive campaign under the tutelage of former Worcestershire director of cricket Tom Moody in Perth, Magoffin is hoping to carry that on to the county circuit, starting on Wednesday at Warwickshire.

He added: "Hopefully, I can adjust to the conditions pretty quickly.

"I'm going to see how the wicket plays and if I need to make any adjustments, then I will.

"Being here for eight weeks will certainly help my game and hopefully it will help Worcestershire too."
