WORCESTER Warriors prop Derrick Appiah has signed a permanent deal with Championship outfit London Scottish.

The 22-year-old is leaving Warriors at the end of the campaign after failing to make an Aviva Premiership appearance.

Appiah featured for the Scots last season on loan and is looking forward to heading to the Athletic Ground for the next stage of his career.

"I am very excited to be joining London Scottish,” he said.

“I've enjoyed my time so far in the UK and am looking forward to this new challenge.

“I know the Championship is a very competitive league and so I will be working hard in order to prove that I deserve to be in the starting XV each week.”

A product of Italian side Modena, Appiah previously featured for Mogliano in Italy's Eccellenza Championship and the Amlin Challenge Cup.

Appiah made his Warriors debut in the European Challenge Cup against Zebre in November 2015 and went on to feature on four occasions for the Warriors in the competition.

He joined Edinburgh on loan in February 2017, making four Guinness Pro 12 appearances during his time in the Scottish capital.

He said: "I hope to show the supporters my best rugby on the field.

“I did spend a short time with the club this past season and I was very impressed with the facilities and the atmosphere around the team so I am delighted to be joining on a permanent basis.”

Appiah was a regular for the Italy U20's during the 2014 RBS Six Nations campaign, helping Italy to a 32-13 victory over Scotland and a fifth-place finish.

Later that year he helped Italy to a third-place finish in Pool A of the IRB Junior World Championship - a campaign which saw his country defeat Argentina 29-26.

Scottish director of rugby Dave Morris said: "We are delighted to sign Derrick for the coming season.

"He is a young and powerful prop who has made a strong transition in to the senior game.

"We are very much looking forward to working with him on the next stage of his development.”
