WORCESTER Warriors dedicated their 25-15 victory over local rivals Gloucester to “ultimate clubman” Jonny Arr.

The long-serving scrum-half celebrated his testimonial day in style as he scored the opening try in the Aviva Premiership triumph at a packed-out Sixways on Saturday.

It was the ex-Royal Grammar School Worcester student’s 197th appearance for the club he joined as a 10-year-old in the minis and juniors section before making his first-team debut in 2007.

Arr had not played for Warriors since suffering a blow to the head at Harlequins in October and made his return to action for National One outift Birmingham Moseley last weekend.

But with Francois Hougaard ruled out with an ankle injury director of rugby Alan Solomons gave the 29-year-old the nod at number nine.

And he revealed captain Donncha O’Callaghan told his teammates to win it for Arr ahead of their Severn derby with Gloucester.

“Donncha made the point in the captain’s run and the boys told me they were going to do it for Jonny,” Solomons said.

“Jonny is a Worcester man through and through.

“Last week I said ‘You have got to go and play 40 minutes' so he went and played for Moseley.

“He told me ‘I have never worn anything other than a Worcester jersey’ and said he may wear it underneath his shirt.

“He is the ultimate clubman. He is a one club guy.

“Donncha said we needed to play well and get the win for not only the team and the supporters but for Jonny which we did.”

Arr crossed in the opening four minutes before set up Jamie Shillcock for a try as Warriors overcame Gloucester to put them 16 points clear of the drop zone.

“Jonny is a very good player and game manager,” Solomons continued.

“I had taken the precaution of giving him 40 minutes at Moseley and I must thank Richard Protherough and Simon Cross for allowing him that game-time.

“But he has been training with us for a long time and I thought once he got those minutes under his belt he would be good to go.”

Arr will now hope to move a step closer to reaching 200 games for his boyhood club when they visit relegation rivals London Irish on Sunday (1pm).
