FIT-AGAIN fly-half Tom Heathcote is still waiting to find out whether he has a future at Worcester Warriors.

The former Bath stand-off said contract negotiations took "secondary" importance to his fitness while he battled to overcome concussion.

After more than five months on the sidelines Heathcote returned to competitive action on Monday when he came off the bench in Worcester Cavaliers’ 56-12 victory over Wasps A.

The 26-year-old whose contract is due to expire in the summer landed four conversions in his 25-minute cameo at the Ivor Preece Field.

But he admitted he still needed to “prove” himself to director of rugby Alan Solomons in the Aviva Premiership.

Asked whether he had a contract for next season, Heathcote said: “I’m still kind of waiting to see what happens to be honest.

“Obviously my fitness has been the main goal over the last few months so I can get back out onto the pitch and everything else has been secondary to that to be honest.”

Duncan Weir, 26, and Jono Lance, 27, will join Worcester ahead of the 2018-19 campaign to provide competition for the number 10 jersey.

Heathcote has featured four times for Warriors in the Premiership this season, with his last appearance coming against Harlequins in October.

“I have still got to prove (myself),” Heathcote said.

“(Playing for the Cavaliers) is one thing but the Premiership is another level so we will wait and see what happens.”

Warriors take on Wasps at the Ricoh Arena tomorrow (3pm) before hosting Harlequins on Saturday, April 28.

The Sixways side will then finish the season with a trip to Northampton Saints on Saturday, May 5.

“We have got three games left and it would be great to get more game-time under my belt,” Heathcote said.

“But I am pretty happy to have played before the end of the season and put the last year or so behind me and move forward with a bit of positivity knowing that I have been on the pitch.”
