ROSS Whiteley's performance for Worcestershire Rapids against Derbyshire Falcons has propelled him into the top 10 of the most sixes per match ratio in the history of T20 cricket.

The left hander cleared the rope twice against Falcons in his 39 runs to take his T20 career sixes tally to 83 from just 68 games at an average of 1.22 per match.

That has lifted the 28-year-old into level joint 10th spot in the all-time list alongside New Zealander Martin Guptill.

It is another confirmation of the destructive hitting power of Whiteley in the shortest format of the game.

In his first full season of T20 Blast cricket for Worcestershire in 2015 he smashed 29 sixes, a tally only equalled in domestic cricket that summer by Chris Gayle.

Whiteley managed another 15 last summer and his hitting power is one of the most potent weapons in Rapids' armoury.

His ability to propel the score along at a frenetic rate in the latter stages of an innings was again evident against his former club Derbyshire even though Rapids eventually went down by seven wickets.

The County, who are third from bottom in the North Group, have a quick chance to claim their first T20 win of the season with a fourth consecutive home game tomorrow when third-placed Lancashire Lightning visit New Road (5.30pm).

Rapids then head to Yorkshire Vikings on Sunday (2.30pm).
