SKIPPER Ben Twohig hit an undefeated half-century as Worcestershire academy recovered from a poor start to their second innings in the drawn Tri-Series game with their Northamptonshire counterparts at Bromsgrove.

The hosts were set a 398 target after Northants, who were on 10-1 in their second innings, added 76 in 8.1 overs before declaring at 86-2.

Worcestershire lost two wickets in the first over when they launched their reply with opener Ollie Westbury and Will Wade both dismissed for ducks to the third and fifth balls from Will Heathfield.

He struck a third blow with 17 on the board with the wicket of Jujhar Johal (6) but then Worcestershire slowly but surely fought back.

Josh Dell and Callum Lea added 58 for the fourth wicket before the former fell two short of his half-century.

Lea was fifth out for 23 with the total on 92 but Twohig and Mahaaz Ahmed joined forces to put on 64 in 21 overs.

Ahmed went for 27 but Twohig remained unbeaten on 65 from 116 balls with two sixes and five fours and with support from Alex Simpson saw the total through to 188-6.

Heathfield ended with excellent figures of 11-7-8-3.
