CAPTAIN Joe Leach is set to have a scan on the back problem suffered during Worcestershire Rapids' dramatic one-wicket win over Warwickshire in the Royal London One-Day Cup at Edgbaston.

Leach was only able to bowl four overs before leaving the field to have treatment.

The all-rounder made a brief appearance during the rest of the innings, with Moeen Ali skippering the side in his absence, but he was able to bat as the Rapids sealed a home semi-final.

Leach said: "Hopefully my back will be okay. Hopefully it is just a bit of a disc issue and I will be back for that semi-final.

“I will have a scan and we will go from there.

"It is just one of those things, just a bowling injury, it’s wear and tear, so hopefully it’s not too bad.

“I was gutted to have to come off in a game of this magnitude but thankfully the boys have given a home semi-final to try and get fit for so hopefully I can do that.”

Head coach Kevin Sharp added: “Joe has had a back spasm so he is going to get that sorted on today and we will see what comes of that. Hopefully it will only be a spasm.

“These things can happen. It is a physical game. Joe doesn’t miss many games.

“He has got a heavy workload and it is inevitable at time that you will pick up the odd aches and pains.”
