A large crowd braved chilly conditions to ensure a successful start to the year for Halls’ collective auction at The Gallops, Stanklyn Lane, Stone, near Kidderminster last Friday.

Even a brief hailstorm failed to dampen the positive bidding, as the day’s top price of £1,500 went to a Case International 585 Tractor. Other sales in the tractor section were an International 474 tractor for £1,000 and a Massey Ferguson TE20 for £500.

The farm implements section had a wide range of entries, ranging from bales of hay at £26 per bale to an Applied Road Sweeper that made £450. Other sales in this section were a Dowdesdale muck spreader for £900, a LR16 Hydramower hedgecutter for £650 and a seven-leg Subsoiler and a tipping trailer for £400 each.

There was the usual high volume of entries in the trailer section, with Ifor Williams models making the top prices. Notably, an Ifor Williams tri-axle dropside trailer made £1,350 and an Ifor Williams 505 horse trailer made £1,140. There were also a couple of caravans, with the top price of £820 going to a Ace Award Brightstar model.

The vehicles section saw a Ford Focus 1.9 TD go for £1,020, a Land Rover Discovery make £800 and a Yamaha 2wd Big Bear 350cc quad bike sell for £400.

There was a good trade in the timber and building materials section, the highlight of which was a large amount of scaffolding, which sold as one lot for £1,000. There was also an excellent trade in the small tools section, with competitive bidding throughout.

Entries are already being received for the next sale on Friday, February 24, which has a catalogue deadline of Monday, February 13.
