A WARM and witty musical comedy based on the friendship between Noel Coward and Gertrude Lawrence is set to be played out on the Oldbury Rep stage.
‘Noel & Gertie’ tells the story of the enduring friendship and professional collaboration of the actor, playwright and songwriter and the alluring and charismatic actress.
The pair worked together over a period of some 40 years, from their childhood to her untimely death in 1952, at the age of 54.
Featuring songs, sketches and snippets of scenes, the production accurately portrays the relationship of the extraordinary duo, inseparable until Gertrude’s premature death of cancer, which left a large void in ‘the Master’s’ life.
The show takes an orchestrated trip down memory lane and features scenes from Private Lives, Tonight at 8.30 (including ‘Red Peppers’ and ‘Still Life’) and Blithe Spirit.
These are offset with many of the best-loved songs, such as Mrs. Worthington, Dance Little Lady, Sail Away and I’ll See You Again.
Written by Sheridan Morley, the production runs in Oldbury Rep’s Studio theatre from Monday, April 9, until Saturday, April 14, with performances getting underway at 7.30pm.
Tickets are priced at £9 for adults and are available from the box office by calling 0121 552 2761, online at www.oldburyrep.org, and in person from the box office on Monday evenings from 7.30pm and every night of the production from 7pm.
Please note, there is no wheelchair access to the Studio theatre.
