Charlie Brooker has scooped a best writing Emmy for an episode of his science-fiction series Black Mirror.
The 46-year-old appeared shocked when he was awarded the writing for a limited series or a movie accolade for Black Mirror: San Junipero.
Brooker, from Reading, thanked his colleagues and his wife, the presenter Konnie Huq, from the stage at the Los Angeles ceremony on Sunday.
The episode of the Netflix anthology, which examines how new technologies could affect us in the near future, focused on a pair who fall in love in a simulated reality.
His win came shortly after Birmingham-born talk-show host John Oliver took his first Emmy of the night for US series Last Week Tonight.
The Crown, nominated for 13 Emmys, has so far won one – with John Lithgow wining best supporting actor in a drama series for his portrayal of Sir Winston Churchill.
The 71-year-old American praised his “wonderful” British co-star Claire Foy, who plays Queen Elizabeth II in the Netflix series.
He added: “Most of all I have to thank Winston Churchill. In these crazy times his life, even as an old man, reminds us what courage and leadership in government really looks like.”
The night so far has been highly-political with US President Donald Trump being a repeated target.
The 69th Emmy Awards are being held at the Microsoft Theatre.
