VENERABLE actress Maxine Peake will tread the boards once again in a bold and gripping new play in Prestatyn and Rhyl.

The star of Peterloo, Shameless and dinnerladies will take to the stage in NT: Live's The Welkin which screens to the Scala and Vue on Thursday, May 21 May 2020 at 7pm.

Set in Rural Suffolk in 1759, Lucy Kirkwood's play finds country in wait for Halley’s comet as Sally Poppy is sentenced to hang for a heinous murder.

When she claims to be pregnant, a jury of 12 matrons are taken from their housework to decide whether she’s telling the truth, or simply trying to escape the noose.

With only midwife Lizzy Luke prepared to defend the girl, and a mob baying for blood outside, the matrons wrestle with their new authority, and the devil in their midst.

Tickets for the Vue are £11.99 from myvue.com and £15 for the Scala, from prestatyn.merlincinemas.co.uk.
