AS hundreds of people gathered at Quarry Bank park to celebrate remembrance day this weekend councillors were delighted the long-awaited war memorial benches were put up.
Quarry Bank councillor Bryan Cotterill said he was overjoyed the two benches - costing £1,200 - were put up in Stevens Park, Quarry Bank's war memorial and peace garden last week.
The benches were paid for by Dudley Area Committee's capital allocations budget.
Members of the friends of the park group gathered on Tuesday November 7 to officially launch the garden's new benches and encourage people to use them.
Councillor Cotterill said: "These new benches will provide the opportunity for people to come and sit in the peace garden and remember and reflect."
Members of the community were invited to plant roses in the garden back in 2004 and it is now opened on special occasions throughout the year for people to remember war heroes.
