KINVER villagers are gearing up for the festive season with a host of traditional events including upgraded Christmas lights.

The High Street and Potters Cross will be illuminated by the regular array of lighting plus an extra four star sprays, new for 2006.

Villagers will be able to enjoy the light show after the big switch-on, set for Friday December 1, until Saturday January 6.

Kinver Rotarians will also be fundraising with their popular Father Christmas sleigh from Tuesday December 12 to Thursday December 21.

This will be the 21st year the club have taken to the streets to raise charity funds and this year are planning to cover Kinver, Enville and parts of Wollaston.

Mike Deathridge, Kinver Rotary Club vice Chairman, said: "We are hoping to knock on every door in the village.

"All the money raised goes to local charities and we will be handing it out in the new year."

Any good causes in the area who feel they need help can contact Mike on 07801 554669 to discuss assistance from the club.

St. Peter's Church, Church Hill, will be holding a carol service on Sunday December 17 and their annual Carols on the Green event.

Singing will start on the green next to the clinic, High Street, on Christmas Eve at 4.30pm.
