A determined DK battled back from being 27-5 down at half time to beat league leaders Luton in a tremendous table topping clash.

The Lutonians who took a 0-3 lead on 10 minutes with a penalty from former Bedford Blues fly half Mark Gray.

DK then suffered a couple of devastating blows as Allan Mitchell and Ian Langford were yellow carded.

Thirteen man DK defended valiantly with skipper Pete Knight taking responsibility and leading by example, but their lack of numbers saw Mark Gray run through on 23 minutes for a try to make it 0-8.

DK were restored to 15 players but conceded a second try after 29 minutes when Luton's Lawrence Alden broke off from the back of a scrum for an easy try under the posts converted by Mark Gray.

The visitors now appeared to be in cruise control, when they added another after flanker Phil Lane showed a good turn of pace to score under the posts.

The home side finally got onto the scoresheet on 36 minutes thanks to great work from the forwards which saw Shaun Griffiths driven over from the lineout to give the home side some respite.

This didn't last long however and a fine run by Ian Gowland in stoppage time saw him lay the ball back but without support, it was picked up by Luton winger Lee Anker who sprinted in for the try from 50m which was converted to leave DK trailing by a massive 22 points at the break.

The Heathbrook crowd were obviously fearing the worst for the second half but a pep talk by coach Mark Wilson's changed the home side's fortunes around.

Within five minutes of intense pressure on the visitor's line finally saw Eddie Smith sidestep his man superbly to score under the posts with full back Ben Rimene converting to give some hope.

The Luton pack were suddenly looking very ragged and on 57 minutes after another furious assault on their goal line DK sucked in the visitors cover then spread the ball wide and at pace for Ian Gowland to streak over for the try wide out to make it 17 -27.

The fans spirits were soon dampened however with Luton's Lee Anker taking advantage of poor defensive alignment to score his second try and seemingly make the game safe for the visitors who were now winning 17-32 going into the final quarter.

Ben Rimene kicked a penalty for DK on 69 minutes to set up a final ten minutes full of drama.

Luton's hooker was yellow carded on 77 minutes to leave them with 14 for the remainder of the game and this played into DK's hands as they were able drive the Luton pack back over their own line for Pete Knight to touch down and Simon Fletcher to convert and leave the home side only a converted home try away from victory.

Deep into stoppage time DK again produced a moment of magic to allow centre Warren Port to touchdown and leave the score level.

Simon Fletcher stepped up and held his nerve to convert and complete a remarkable grandstand finish.
