Dudley Sports injury crisis went from bad to worse in their 1-0 defeat to Wednesfield on Saturday after having two players rushed to hospital in the same ambulance after a freak collision.

The West Midlands Prem home match was held up for more half an hour after goalkeeper Nathan Harrison collided with centre half Luke Chance.

The pair were both stretchered off by paramedics to casualty with Harrison suffering concussion and a head injury requiring five stitches while the defender was suffering from a painful knee injury.

Both have now been discharged form hospital but it will now leave Sports boss Neil Perks without nine first team regulars for Saturday's home clash with Ellesmere.

He said: "We are only in the middle of November and we've already played more than half our league games and this has played a big part in us ending with such a lengthy injury list.

"We really are down to the bare bones which is extremely frustrating to say the least."

Rivals Dudley Town bounced back from a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Sports last week to come away from struggling Bromyard with a 3-0 win at the weekend.

The Robins produced one of their best performances of the season on the back of a difficult week which has seen assistant manager Dean Whitehouse and first team players Craig Gittens and Adrian Baddams leave the club.

Boss Mark Kavanagh is now hoping to strengthen the squad with him having a number of possible targets in mind.

Town will be back in action at the War Memorial Ground on Saturday when they host mid-table Wednesfield.

High-flying Gornal remained top of the tree with a fine 1-0 win at home to struggling Bustleholme.

The welcome three points came courtesy of a first half Lee Wherton effort.

Manager Simon Williams was delighted with the victory was hoping his search for a proven striker could be about to pay dividends.

Simon said: "We have spoken to a player with Alliance football experience and we are now waiting to hear back whether he will join us or not."

The Garden Walk outfit will face a difficult trip to local rivals Lye on Saturday.
